Pathak's first foray into acting was under her mother's direction with the revival of the play Maina Gurjari, which Dina Pathak had acted in previously.[4] This was followed by a play with Dinesh Thakur titled Biwiyon Ka Madersa (based on a play by French playwright Molière), which was staged at the Prithvi Theatre. It was here that Jennifer Kendall (the late wife of Shashi Kapoor) spotted her and recommended her to Shyam Benegal for their home production Kalyug (1981), an adaptation of the epic Mahabharata. Her portrayal of Subhadra won her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She then performed in Vijeta (1982), Bazaar (1982), Masoom (1983) and Mirch Masala (1985). She had a minor role in the biopic Gandhi (1982) and starred in the 1988 French film, The Bengali Night. She appeared in Raakh in 1989.[citation needed] In 1985 she played title role in Malayalam movie Akalathe Ambili.[6]

Following the Western trend of making full length movies on Hit Television Series, Bollywood comes up with its own original film adapted from the famous comedy T.V. Serial KHICHDI. Based on the same theme, settings and characters, the film is quite similar to its original source and has nothing exceptional or extra-ordinary in store for its audience (especially the new ones).

Narrated through the two wise kids of the hilariously madcap Parekh family namely Jacky and Chakki Khichdi- The movie is about a hare brained dream of a snail brained bunch of lovable losers. Hansa's brother Himanshu has born a ridiculous ambition that is to have a memorable legendary love story. It's all together another matter that he is not in love with anyone and neither is he capable of getting any sensible girl smitten to him. But as Babuji over wisely says that for every idiotic Praful there is an even more idiotic Hansa made his prophecy turns out to be true, Parminder Himashu's neighbor fall in love with Himanshu for no logical reason and the 2 get enaged to get married. That's when this ridiculous story line takes a ridiculous turn. Himanshu realizes on the eve of the wedding that the impending ceremony would mean impending doom to his desire to have a lengendary love story. For nothing interesting ever happened in his love story to make it memorable. It was a simple non happening take with a boring happy ending. No resistance no conflict no separation no sad song no climax nothing. And so our gifted dumb family sets out to stall the wedding. And then begins their journey to create all those missing stages in Himanshu's love story in order to make it legendary. How in this hilariously hare brained process they make a mess of everything and how at the incredibly ridiculous climax Himanshu eventually manages to win his love back makes up the story of Kichdi

After I got through her shell a little, I realised that she was interested, mostly [with the exception of make-up], in the same things I'm interested in books, movies, music, the whole cliché lot though we had some difference in tastes. She had her troubles, lots of them, but she maintained similar principles to me: things move on, so don't try to hold on to them if you don't want to stumble. She had her share of back biting friends, too. Sometimes, English medium schools in Dhaka remind me of my school in Sweden; you have to watch where you tread or might get blown up by a landmine made up of gossips and rumours. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe all high schools are like that.
She was a pillow maniac. Most people hug other people, some hug their pets, some even hug trees. She hugged her pillows, sitting on her bed in her PJs looking at me with big brown eyes, trying hard not to laugh as I gave her lectures about life and philosophy, politics and history [yeah, I'm boring sometimes. Ok, most of the time] and literature, though I know next to nothing about them. I quoted books and movies like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. I think I'm stupid, too; I should have quoted from Aristotle and Socrates, Robindronath and Jibonanondo and Shakespeare [he is the pinnacle of boredom]. But with her, life was somehow simpler. No need to be extravagant and poetic. The simplest things I said, made me feel conceited, as it sounds - poetic. 2ff7e9595c
